Hey Mr Jesse: August podcast

The Hey Mr Jesse podcast for August where Jesse Miner and Manu Smith talks about swinging jazz and blues that matters to dancers and is available now.

As usual they feature good solid swing music that they have found both online and in music stores. This time they also feature novelty tunes, in the sense that the tunes are not swing songs from the start but where someone has made a swing arrangement of the song. One example is "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (originally by Nirvana) by Paul Anka on the album Rock Swings.

Another example they use is songs from Richard Cheese, who is a lounge singer in Las Vegas that makes crooner versions of every kind of contemporary songs, from Snoop Dogg and Limp Bizkit to Eminem. I first heard Richard Cheese in a clothes store a couple of months ago, but I have been hesitant to blog about him because it's mostly novelty music for swing dancers, but since Jesse Miner mentions him I guess I can do it too.

Take a look at this CNN segment with an interview with Richard Cheese:

The Hey Mr Jesse podcast got lots more content, including a interview with singer Linda Hopkins and a countdown of fantastic songs for dance jams. Take a look at all the details at the show notes for the August podcast.

Koop: Come to me feat. Harlem Hot Shots

When you dj, you are often looking for songs that will create a certain feeling or mood on the dance floor. You try to find songs that match that feeling or will lead you along a path towards that mood.

Today it's Sunday, so I'm trying to come up with a blog post that gives you a relaxed Sunday morning feeling. Here is a song that is softly swinging that may get you up from your bed. Come to me by Koop.

This music video for the song "Come to me" by Koop is directed by Marcus Söderlund and was shot at the Beatelund mansion at Ingarö outside of Stockholm Aug 1-2 2006. The song is from their album "Koop Islands"

In this video you can spot several members of the swing dance show group The Harlem Hot Shots doing lindy hop and charleston.

This seems to be a great place to have a party. Location and decoration is important to me when I throw a party. Good music and great people are the most important things but it has to look great as well. Small details can really make a difference.

What do think of this video clip with Koop performing Come To Me? Were you an extra at the video shoot? What was that like? Tell me.

Christina Aguilera - Candy man

Christina Aguilera has released a new album Back to basics where she is influenced by the music and fashion of the 1920s-40s. This can be seen in her video "Candy man", which seems to be set in WW2 times. It has several popular culture references to that time, Christina Aguilera does a 'We can do it' pose in the end of the video.

This is probably what Andrews sisters would do if they were alive today. In WW2 artists made what was called V-discs and they were sent overseas to boost the soldiers spirit. Candy man has some similarities with the song Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy which Andrews sisters made famous.

In the video you see some swing dancing (well, mostly aerials) with Christina Aguilera and Benji Schwimmer (who won season 2 of So You Think You Can Dance). I like the video because it has high energy and nice fashion.

Now, this is hardly straight swing, more like pop-styled boogie woogie, so I'm presenting this as a novelty item, I'll be back with regular swing tomorrow.
